Photography market is a quite saturated one, although that doesn’t mean every photographer you encounter is going to do a good job. Of course there are a bunch of subjective things to have in mind such as style, way of editing and so on. But here there are 5 clues to help you recognize that the photographer you contacted for your Photoshoot is a good one.
1. Communication with them is easy.
This has nothing to do with his or her skills as a photographer but as a professional offering a service in general. A good photographer will always have your best interest in mind and that starts with listening to what do you need and how fast they reply your emails and calls. Our advice is not to waste much of your precious time trying to get any professional to reply you. If communication doesn’t flow, move on to your next option: nothing good will came out of that.
2. The skin color in their pictures looks good.
We know this sounds too obvious, but actually it is something to keep in mind. Many photographers edit their photos with presets. Well, nothing against it! It can really help save a lot of time. But only clicking a button and applying a preset is not color correct or retouching if the final result is not up to the mark. Every photography needs to be processed separately and paying special attention to the skin color of the subject. Does it look real? Does it look its best? Has it any weird hue? Analyzing these kind of details will give you a great load of information about how good is the photographer you are considering. Moreover, there are so many types of skin complexion, so make sure your photographer knows how to edit yours.
3. Do they charge a fair fee?
Do some research and get to know what is a fair fee to get your Photoshoot clicked regarding what you want. Obviously, the better and the more experienced the photographer, the more they will charge. A very low budget Photoshoot generally will lead you to a low quality result or to someone who is just getting started in Photography professionally. Absolutely nothing wrong with it! Only you know what adapts better to your needs. If you have decided you want to invest your time and money in a proper professional Photoshoot, decide wisely and go for a good professional even if that costs you a little more.
4. How creative is their Portfolio?
By looking at their Portfolio you need to understand that their work is consistent, yes. But is there room for Creativity? Are their photos an unique approach to reality or a collection of dull pics? A Photographer is first and foremost an artist and, as such, skills as imagination and creativity must be evident in their job. Make sure that your chosen Photographer has an appropriate out-of-the-box thinking and is not afraid of getting out of his comfort zone to explore new photographic approaches. A wide variety of styles, backdrops, locations, poses, props, themes, etc. will give you a good idea of how versatile is your Photographer.

You need to feel comfortable sharing with them what do you want in your Photo Session and you need to fell free enough to share and show what do you carry inside. Generally, posing in front of a camera makes people a little uncomfortable. Imagine the challenge if moreover you don’t feel a good connection with your Photographer!
